To help you decide if I am the right therapist for your young person please read below a recent testimonial from a parent.

“Jane saw our 11 year old daughter for about 4 months, sometimes once a week and sometimes fortnightly. She helped her with a phobia and to explore and understand certain behaviours linked to her feelings and thoughts. Our daughter has emerged with more confidence, understanding, strength, positivity, acceptance of herself and coping strategies. Jane is gently and sensitively yet assertively positive and inquisitive in her approach. She infused the sessions with hope, clarity and reassurance and always in a fun, safe and engaging way.

Jane’s room was always a safe, warm, comfy, welcoming and relaxing space where we were expertly encouraged and guided to explore our daughter’s issues in. I always felt that whilst they were her sessions with Jane that my thoughts as her mum were always included and considered as much as they needed to be. Thank you Jane – from us all.”

Neurodiversity

As an autistic adult with ADHD I have lived experience of being neurodivergent, along with parenting 3 neurodivergent children.

I provide consultations to parents to help you find more calm and control in your family life. In just a few sessions I can provide you with tools to enable yourself and your young person to emotionally regulate. Reducing the stress within the family.

I know first hand how challenging that can be at times and so I have gathered a number of very effective tools and techniques to support you and your family.

I know how important it is to create a safe environment for young people to feel heard and understood.

I help young people to:

  • Express how they experience the world

  • Identify and celebrate their strengths

  • Develop coping strategies to manage the challenges they face in a neurotypical world

  • Develop a strong identity of who they are and build confidence from this

  • Identify techniques that can bring about more control when life becomes overwhelming

I use a number of methods within the therapy room, including hypnosis which is very effective with young people. Hypnosis allows a busy neurodivergent mind to be calm and allow the body to experience deep relaxation.

I value the work I do with young people to reduce their anxiety and stress. This is why I have linked up with RSPCA Chesterfield. For each young person that books an initial consultation with me, the fee of £10 goes straight to this amazing charity, to support the important work they do to re home animals.

Research shows that the act of stroking a pet reduces our blood pressure and anxiety. When children stroke, cuddle or play with their pets they are increasing serotonin (the happy hormone) and reducing cortisol levels (the stress hormone).

Many of the young people I work with have ADHD or autism and there are studies that show how beneficial owning a pet can be for a neurodivergent child.

I have seen first hand how much my neurodivergent children love our cat. He is a vital part of what helps them to regulate, feel safe and comfortable to give and receive affection and help to lift their mood.
