“I now know what peace feels like - I can find it in my day” - a client shared with me today.

Building in a reset to your demanding day can provide so many benefits but why do we not do this more often?

Most of my clients have very high demanding roles in life, either in their work, home life or both. Often they come to me feeling lost and not able to get back in control, anxiety and stress being the primary feelings.

Their nervous systems have been operating on high alert for a long time and it takes a few steps to teach the brain and body that the survival state is not constantly required.

How does hypnosis fit in and how does it help?

Hypnosis is a calming state for the nervous system whilst giving a positive focus for the brain. Allowing clients to feel in control and at the same time being in a deeply relaxed state.

For a busy brain, that struggles to switch off this is very helpful.

There is enough stimulus for the brain to be focused, but as the body feels more and more relaxed there is a reset that takes place.

The nervous system receives queues to let go and unwind. In turn the mind slows down and the freedom to imagine comes back on line.

Clients experience this regularly in sessions and use my audio during the week, soon this more relaxed state, and ability to pause and reset, becomes more familiar.

Repeating this process allows for neuroplasticity to take place, new connections are wired in the brain, creating new pathways.

Clients begin to feel more in control and choose more easily the perspective that says “I can”.

An important part of this process that often surprises clients is the power of understanding what is going on for them. Understanding what anxiety is, it’s function and how it presents in the body can be very empowering. When we learn what is going on we can begin to manage it and be less scared of sudden feelings of panic or overwhelm.

From understanding comes validation, compassion and then choices over how to manage what is a very unique experience for each client.

If you are experiencing any of these issues, a simple and effective step can be to check in with yourself throughout the day. Notice what you are feeling, thinking and physically feeling.

Give it detail and description.

If the experience is unpleasant when you check in, giving this space for more understanding will help reduce the intensity and help you to move through it.

Life is busy, we need to take time out for a few moments each day. This time can be the small glimmer of space that your brain and body needs in a busy world.
